What is an image cropping tool?

The image cropping tool removes unwanted parts of photos or illustrations and saves only the desired area as a new image. You can use it when you want to center the subject, reduce white space, or adjust the image to fit the aspect ratio specified by social media platforms or blogs.Since you can directly manipulate the selection frame on the image, it’s easier to preview the final result than when using a method that relies solely on entering numerical values.

You can freely select the cropping area or lock it to aspect ratios such as 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, and 9:16. You can easily create shapes suited to your needs, such as square profile pictures, horizontal thumbnails, and vertical images for smartphones.Even after selecting an aspect ratio, you can move or resize the frame, and it will automatically adjust to ensure it does not extend beyond the image’s boundaries.

If the image orientation is incorrect, rotate it in 90-degree increments or flip it horizontally or vertically before cropping. After making these adjustments, the cropping area will be reset to fit the entire image, allowing you to reselect the portion you want to keep. Input fields for coordinates, width, and height are also provided, making it convenient when you need to specify the exact same size or position.

You can choose from PNG, JPEG, or WebP as the file format. Use PNG or WebP if you want to preserve transparency; JPEG or WebP is suitable if you want to save photos with a smaller file size.Since JPEG cannot preserve transparency, the specified background color will be used for images with transparent areas. All processing takes place within the browser; the selected image is never uploaded to the server.

How to Use

  1. Drag and drop an image, or select a file using the "Select Image" button.
  2. Select the aspect ratio as needed, then move and resize the frame on the image to determine the area you want to keep.
  3. To change the orientation of an image, use the rotate or flip button.
  4. Select the file format, image quality, and background color for JPEGs.
  5. Click "Cut Selection," check the results, and download the file.

Important Notes

  • When you crop an image, pixels outside the selection area will not be saved. Please keep the original image on hand.
  • Since JPEGs do not support transparency, transparent areas will be filled with the specified background color.
  • Very large images may not be processed due to device memory limitations or browser Canvas size limits.
  • For images with multiple frames, such as animated GIFs, the first frame is treated as a still image.
  • When you rotate or flip an image, the cropping area is reset based on the entire new image.
