What is the Image Resizing Tool?

The Image Resizer is a free online tool that lets you change the width and height of photos and illustrations to adjust them to the appropriate size for your needs.You can use it when photos for your website are too large, when you want to reduce the size of an image for an email attachment, or when you want to adjust an image to the recommended sizes for social media posts or OGP images. When you select an image, you can check its original width, height, format, and file size, and simply enter the new dimensions to generate an image of the desired size.

In addition to specifying width and height directly, you can also specify them as a percentage, such as 50% or 200%. Maintaining the aspect ratio ensures that when you change the width or height, the other dimension is automatically recalculated, preventing the image from being unnaturally stretched. If you don’t want the image to be larger than the original, you can use the anti-stretch setting.

We also provide presets for specific uses, such as Full HD, HD, square social media, portrait social media, and OGP. With these presets, you can choose between fitting the entire image into the specified frame while maintaining its aspect ratio, or resizing it to fit the specified width and height exactly. Please select the appropriate option based on your use case and where the image will be displayed.

Reducing the size of images generally reduces file size, which improves page load times and upload speeds. However, depending on the file format, quality settings, and image content, the file size may not decrease as much as expected. Since JPEG and WebP allow you to adjust image quality, it’s important to balance file size with the visibility of text and fine details.

This tool uses HTML Canvas to load, resize, preview, and download images entirely within the browser. Image data is not sent to the server for processing. Since EXIF metadata—such as the date and time the photo was taken and GPS location—is not typically preserved, please use dedicated software if you need to retain this information.

How to Use

  1. Drag and drop an image, or select a file using "Select Image."
  2. Select a method from width/height, magnification, or presets by use case.
  3. Adjust the aspect ratio, prevent distortion, and adjust the file format and image quality as needed.
  4. When you click "Resize Image," the page will navigate to the results section and display the new image.
  5. Check the image size and file size, then save it by clicking "Download Resized Image."

Precautions for Use

  • Enlarging large images may result in a loss of image quality.
  • If the aspect ratio is not maintained, the image may become distorted, appearing either horizontally or vertically elongated.
  • For animated GIFs, only the first frame is treated as a still image.
  • Since the image is regenerated using Canvas, metadata such as EXIF and GPS information is not typically retained.
  • Very large images may not be processed due to insufficient device memory.
