What is a Percentage Calculator?

The Percentage Calculator is a free tool that allows you to perform multiple percentage-related calculations on a single screen.You can easily perform everyday calculations—such as “What is 15% of 1,000 yen?”, “What percentage of 200 people is 80?”, or “By what percentage did the price increase when it went from 1,000 yen to 1,200 yen?”—without having to memorize any formulas.

It can be widely used for work, study, and household budgeting—including shopping discounts, estimates of sales tax and fees, growth and decline rates for sales and traffic, percentage breakdowns of survey results, and goal achievement rates.It also includes a feature that calculates the original value based on the changed value, so it can handle calculations such as “If the price after a 20% discount is 8,000 yen, what is the original price?”

All calculations are processed within the browser using JavaScript. The numbers you enter are not sent to the server for calculation. Results are formatted to a readable number of digits, but for financial transactions, contracts, or other cases requiring precise decimal handling, please verify the final results in accordance with applicable regulations and business rules.

Supported calculations

  • ○% of a number: 15% of 1,000 is 150.
  • Percentage of the total: 50 is 25% of 200.
  • Percentage change: A change from 1,000 to 1,200 represents a 20% increase.
  • Value after adjustment: A 10% price reduction on 8,000 yen results in 7,200 yen.
  • Calculating the original price: If the price after a 20% discount is 8,000 yen, the original price is 10,000 yen.

How to Use

  1. Select the calculation method that best suits your purpose from the "Calculation Type" options.
  2. Enter a number in the displayed input field. Do not include the % symbol when entering percentages; for example, enter "15" for 15%.
  3. When you click "Calculate," the result and the calculation formula will be displayed.
  4. If you want to use the calculation results elsewhere, click "Copy Results."
  5. To perform a different calculation, either change the calculation method or click "Clear" to reset the input.

Precautions for Use

  • The percentage change is calculated based on the value before the change. If the value before the change is 0, the calculation cannot be performed.
  • It is not possible to calculate the original price from the price after a 100% discount.
  • You can enter decimals and negative numbers, but please verify that the calculation makes sense for your intended use.
  • How amounts are rounded varies depending on business practices and tax laws. This tool performs general numerical calculations and does not automatically round up or down.

If you select “Find X% of a number,” enter 15 for the percentage and 1,000 for the base number, the result will be 150.

Can you calculate what percentage of the total a given number represents?

Yes. Select “Calculate what percentage a number represents of the total,” then enter the number of the part and the total number.

Can you calculate price increase and price decrease rates?

Yes. When you enter the values before and after the change in the “Calculate Rate of Change” field, it will display the percentage increase or decrease.

Can you calculate the price after the discount?

Yes. Select “Calculate the value after a % increase or decrease,” then enter the decrease, discount rate, and original price.

Can you calculate the original price before the discount?

Yes. Under "Calculate the original value before the change," select "Decrease," then enter the discount rate and the price after the discount.

Can this also be used to calculate sales tax?

This can be used for general percentage calculations. However, please follow the transaction terms regarding rounding and tax regulations.

Can I enter a decimal number?

Yes. You can also enter decimals such as 12.5% or 1234.56.

Can I enter comma-separated numbers?

Will the entered values be submitted?

What happens if the baseline value for a percentage change is 0?
